Mercy Hilltop Center, Inc.

History

Mercy Hilltop Center is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy. The center was opened on October 2nd, 1973. Funded in large by the Area Agency on Aging, GECAC (Greater Erie Community Action Committee, the center operates as a multipurpose senior center meeting the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs of seniors throughout Erie County.

In 2010, the Center, formerly known as Mercy Center on Aging, had a name change and is now doing business as Mercy Hilltop Center, Inc. The Center is located at 3715 Pennsylvania Ave on Erie’s upper east side. The general objective is to provide a multi-service center for the citizens of the Erie area where we provide innovative programing, comfortable, safe spaces for socialization, card games, physical wellness, creative pursuits, and educational programing.

Our intention is that every individual who enters the center feels welcome and comfortable to interact with staff and members, who we hope with eventually become friends.

Center Objectives:

·       To serve the Erie Community’s older population by:

o   Promoting healthy living

o   Supporting independence

o   Fostering continued learning

o   Promoting leisure time activities independently as well as in groups

o   Creating innovative and preventative new programming

o   Enhancing self-image through various activates

o   Assisting in connecting older adults with community services

Sisters of Mercy

As a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Hilltop Center benefits from the Institute’s experience of engaging in charitable works for over 200 years.  Through shared authority between the Sisters of Mercy and our Board, our mission and business relationship intersect to provide support to our ministry and sustainability to carry on merciful work, based on the service and principles of our foundress, Sister Catherine McCauley.  We welcome people of all faiths.
